The Client
Hambledon is England’s oldest commercial vineyard, producing English sparkling wine and running a restaurant, tasting experiences, events and wine education.
The business had strong products and an established name. But being known by existing customers is not the same as being found by new ones.
People searching for wine tasting in Hampshire, English sparkling wine or a vineyard restaurant were often finding competitors first. Hambledon was highly visible for its own name, but not visible enough in the searches that bring new customers into the business.
The Challenge
Hambledon needed to be easier to find when people were planning a visit, choosing a restaurant, booking a tasting or buying English sparkling wine.
The website was sitting too far down the search results for important non-brand terms. Average position was around page three. That made it difficult to bring in people who had not already heard of Hambledon.
The goal was not more traffic for its own sake. It was to put the business in front of people with a reason to visit, book or buy, then make that demand more likely to turn into revenue.

What results did we achieve?
Revenue increased by 47% and orders increased by 25% across the cleanest like-for-like four-month period, March to June.
Conversion rate rose from 1.18% to 2.84%. The business was turning a greater share of its website visitors into customers, despite attracting fewer total visits.
Search visibility improved at the same time. Clicks from Google increased by 11.8% year on year, while average position moved from 23.6 to 11.4. Hambledon went from the third page of search results into the top ten and held that position for eleven consecutive months.
The most useful part of the growth came from people who did not already know the brand. Non-brand clicks increased from 2,568 to 2,960, bringing in people searching for wine tastings, vineyard restaurants, English sparkling wine and Hampshire experiences.
Organic search now contributes meaningfully to the business. From March to August 2026, it delivered 756 orders and £44,395 in recorded revenue, equal to 26% of recorded orders and 20% of recorded revenue.
Nothing leaves Market Jar unless it earns its place.

The Mechanism
We rebuilt the route between what people search for and what Hambledon sells.
The first job was to improve the technical and commercial foundations of the site. Then we strengthened the pages that matter to revenue: the restaurant, tours, events and wine collections.
We also created clearer routes into the business for people searching more broadly. Someone looking for a vineyard lunch, a tasting in Hampshire or English sparkling wine should be able to find Hambledon before they know its name.
The restaurant page became the second largest entry point to the site, with 5,555 clicks. Tour experiences brought in 1,820 clicks. The English sparkling wine collection brought 1,873. Informative content also began bringing in customers earlier in their search, including a single piece on wine production that generated 599 clicks.
The result was a stronger customer-acquisition route. More relevant people found Hambledon, more converted, and the business made more revenue without needing to chase higher traffic volume.
