The Client

Pull The Cork began as a small online wine business with a simple idea: make it easier for people to discover and buy good wine.

The founder, Mark Jarvis, knew the wine trade well. But the business needed to prove it could compete online, in a market full of established retailers with bigger budgets and far greater visibility.

The opportunity was not just to sell more wine in the UK. It was to build a business that could attract customers across Europe through organic demand, rather than relying on paid advertising to keep orders coming in.

The Challenge

Pull The Cork needed to prove that an online wine business could grow quickly without buying every sale through advertising.

The site had to work across multiple countries, compete for high-value wine and delivery searches, and give customers a simple way to find the right bottles and buy them.

That meant building more than an online shop. The business needed a dependable route to new customers in the UK, the United States, Germany, Luxembourg and across central Europe.

What results did we achieve?

Pull The Cork grew from £26k in revenue to roughly £1m, largely through organic search and email.

The site went from ranking for four branded terms to 23,092 keywords. Monthly organic traffic reached 39,907 visitors. The business was no longer dependent on people already knowing the name.

Customers found Pull The Cork while searching for wine delivery, organic wine, low-intervention wine and wines from the countries and producers they wanted to discover. The site became a route into the business for people who had never heard of the brand before.

The growth was not built on chasing traffic for the sake of it. It was built by being useful at the point customers were ready to explore, compare and buy.

Pull The Cork became an international wine delivery business with a customer acquisition engine that kept working without paying for every click.

Nothing leaves Market Jar unless it earns its place.

The Mechanism

We built the business around how customers actually search for wine.

The store was designed to make finding and buying wine simple, whether someone already knew what they wanted or needed help choosing. Categories, product pages and collection pages gave customers clear routes into the range.

We then built the visibility needed to bring new people in.

Content around wine delivery, organic wine, low-intervention wine and the questions people ask before buying brought in potential customers earlier in the decision. Clear internal routes then moved them towards the wines and collections most likely to convert.

The business stopped relying on paid advertising to create every sale. It built a stronger route to new customers that kept working month after month.
