The Client

Sake Shoten is an independent sake retailer bringing a carefully chosen range of Japanese sake to the UK.

The business is founded by Chris Ashton, one of a small number of recognised sake experts outside Japan. The product knowledge, producer relationships and story behind the brand were strong.

But the website was new. It had no organic audience and little visibility when potential customers searched for sake online.

The Challenge

Sake Shoten needed to get in front of people who were curious about sake, looking to try it for the first time or ready to buy from a specialist.

The business had launched its website only days before we started work. There was no existing search presence to rely on.

The aim was to build a route into the business for people who did not already know Sake Shoten, then turn that growing audience into customers.

What results did we achieve?

Within three months, Sake Shoten reached page one of Google for 16 relevant search terms.

Organic traffic started arriving within the first month. By month three, the website was receiving more than 2,000 visitors a month from Google.

That changed the starting point for the business.

Instead of relying on people already knowing the brand, Sake Shoten began appearing in front of people searching for sake, learning about the category and looking for a retailer they could trust.

The site started building an audience with real buying intent, giving the business a stronger route to new customers from the outset.

Nothing leaves Market Jar unless it earns its place.

The Mechanism

We built visibility around how people discover and buy sake.

Some people are experienced drinkers looking for specific bottles. Others need help understanding where to start. The website needed to serve both, giving people useful information while creating clear routes into the product range.

We created and improved content around the terms potential customers were already searching for. That gave Sake Shoten a way to appear earlier in the buying decision, before someone had chosen where to buy.

The work brought relevant people in through search, then gave them a credible specialist brand and a clear route to purchase.

It was not about making the website busier. It was about building demand from people with a genuine reason to buy.
